Warm Wishes on an Oversized Card

Last month, I said goodbye to my beloved supervisor at my day job. She moved on to another project in the company, and consequently moved to a new location. On her last day, we had a nice send-off lunch and off course I had to make her a card. She knows I'm a stamper, so I just HAD to make one. I also wanted to get as many people to sign her card as I could, so I made it bigger than the 5.5" x 4.25" card. The above card was the result. It opens up and provided lots of space to have dozens of people sign their wishes. She loved the card. Mission accomplishment.

Stampin' Cita Tips:
  • Stamp Set: Warmest of Wishes (Holiday Mini Hostess Set)
  • Color Scheme: Pool Party, More Mustard, Chocolate Chip
  • Accessories:  Spice Cake DSP, Wild Wasabi embossing powder, Top Note die, Peekaboo Frames Bigz L die
  • Cut two top notes from the Top Note die - one from More Mustard Cardstock and one from the Spice Cake DSP. Take the DSP Top Note and cut along the dotted lines; adhere it to the More Mustard Top Note.
  • Emboss the "Warmest Wishes" sentiment on Very Vanilla. Cut the Top Note-looking image from the Peekaboo Frames die in More Mustard. Make sure to not open the frame. Adhere the embossed image to the peekaboo frame.
  • Cut two 11"x5" pieces of Pool Party Cardstock. In landscape orientations, score each piece at 3-1/2". Fold the ends up and place one of the pieces on top of the other. Adhere (I used sticky strip to make sure it was more secure).

This was a fun card to make, and I think I may use this concept in the future when others on my team leave. I think this design is easy to switch out the colors and DSP and still have a quick card.

Random Thoughts: Doing What I Love

So, I'm going to get a little mushy here.

A few weeks ago, the world said goodbye to Steve Jobs. Thanks to him, I have my beloved iPod with who knows how many awesome apps. He was truly an amazing man in how he led Apple to push technology and revolutionize so many technological areas. I thank him for that.

A few years ago, during my short-lived attempt at graduate school, a professor assigned my class to read Steve Jobs' 2005 Standford Commencement address. This was one of my favorite assignments ever. His speech is amazing. I remember being inspired by that text, but this particular paragraph stood out then, and it still stands out now.

Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle.

I think Shelli and Steve Jobs could have been great friends. :)

This paragraph reminds me a lot of Stampin' Up! How I, as a demonstrator, love what I do. I LOVE to stamp. And I love how SU! gives me such a great opportunity to share what I love and do what I share. Furthermore, I love my day job. I'm a technical writer for a science and engineering company, and I love it.

Are you still looking for something to love? Seriously, try stamping. And if you are already in love with Stampin, try Stampin' Up! Become a demonstrator and learn why thousands of women and a handful of men proudly proclaim that they love what they do. You can still keep your "day job." (I did.) Contact me if you want to talk more about the opportunity.
